Nemesis Court Simulations 2026: The Tradition brought together law students from universities across Türkiye and abroad for a conference built on advocacy, jurisprudence and legal reasoning.
The courts ran in both Turkish and English, with hearings, submissions and every procedural stage conducted in the language of the court a participant had applied to. Prior moot court experience was not required — the conference was open to first-time participants and experienced students alike.

The case of J.S. v. Slovakia addresses the critical intersection of domestic violence and the boundaries of self-defence. After enduring years of systematic abuse, the applicant resorted to lethal force, invoking the 'Battered Woman Syndrome' as a central element of her psychological state. Before the European Court of Human Rights, she argues that domestic courts failed to conduct a gender-sensitive assessment of her situation, thereby violating her right to a fair trial under Article 6.
Beyond the individual tragedy, the case scrutinizes the State's positive obligations under Articles 2 and 3 to protect victims of domestic abuse. It invites a fundamental legal debate: Do traditional standards of 'immediacy' and 'proportionality' in self-defence sufficiently reflect the lived realities of long-term victims? This case challenges traditional interpretations of law to evolve through the lens of structural and psychological violence.

At Nemesis The Tradition, this M&A simulation is built to test multiple acquisition structures through a live, competitive bid for Warner Bros. Discovery, with Netflix, Inc. and Paramount Skydance as rival acquirers. Teams will experiment with different takeover types, including all cash and stock for stock mergers, hybrid consideration (cash plus equity), staged acquisitions and earn outs, share purchases vs. asset deals, and proposals featuring carve outs for sensitive business lines.
Participants may also explore minority investments with control rights, joint bid vehicles, and alternative governance packages. Each structure will be judged not only on valuation, but on deal certainty and closability. Delegates will negotiate term sheets and core agreement mechanics such as reps and warranties, covenants, closing conditions, MAC clauses, break fees, and regulatory risk allocation. The most credible bidder will combine a coherent strategic rationale with a realistic financing plan, integration roadmap and an antitrust ready remedy set.
The simulation culminates in a board and regulator style showdown where design, negotiation skill and execution credibility decide the winner.

VisionSave v. Spectle: At the heart of the dispute is Spectle's innovation that allows independent lenses to snap into their frames, bypassing the European lens market monolith VisionSave's "closed-loop" ecosystem. This bold act from the industry's up and coming star will be discussed through a competition law perspective.
The Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) serves as the ultimate arbiter of competition law within the EU, ensuring that regulations are applied consistently across all member states. By adjudicating disputes and auditing the European Commission's decisions on mergers, antitrust, and state aid, the Court maintains the legal integrity of the internal market. Ultimately, its role is to act as a safeguard for a fair and level playing field throughout the Union.
The participants will be expected to take on the role of the CJEU and to decide if this market monopoly have an obligation to allow certain acts to comply with the EU legislation or is this an act of unfair competition in the name of an innovation.
