Prosecution of a U.S. Government Official for War Crimes Committed on Iranian Territory

Agenda

  1. Agenda item 1

Prosecution of a U.S. Government Official for War Crimes Committed on Iranian Territory

As hostilities between the United States and Iran escalated in 2026, allegations of serious violations of international humanitarian law emerged concerning U.S. military operations conducted on Iranian territory. In this case, following Iran’s recognition of the International Criminal Court’s jurisdiction over crimes committed on its territory, the Court examines the alleged individual criminal responsibility of Admiral Brad Cooper, Commander of U.S. Central Command, for war crimes allegedly committed during these operations. The proceedings will address questions of command responsibility, the legality of military attacks, the protection of civilians, and the application of international humanitarian law, while the Prosecution and Defence present their arguments before the Court.
